วัดเกาะเพชรห่างจากตัวเมืองนครศรีธรรมราชประมาณ 60 กิโลเมตร และเป็นวัดที่มีความสำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์โบราณคดีและศิลปะวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น ที่แสดงถึงความเจริญรุ่งเรืองมายาวนานกว่าหลายร้อยปี มีวัฒนธรรมซึ่งเป็นหลักฐานแสดงถึงความเจริญต่างๆที่ถูกเก็บรวบรวมไว้ในวัด เช่น

เนื้อที่วัด วัดเกาะเพชรมีเนื้อที่รวมประมาณ ๘ ไร่ ๘๐ ตารางวา (ตามเอกสารหนังสือรับรองการทำประโยชน์เลขที่ ๑๖๘๒ เล่มที่ ๑๗ข. หน้า ๓๒) โดยมีพระครูอุทัยธรรมประภาส เป็นเจ้าอาวาสปัจจุบัน ๒๕๖๔ ซึ่งได้รับการแต่งตั้งเป็นเจ้าอาวาสวัดฯ มีพระจำพรรษาประจำ ๓ รูป วัดเกาะเพชรสังกัดคณะสงฆ์ธรรมยุต พื้นที่วัดทิศเหนือจรดที่ดินศูนย์พัฒนาเด็กเล็ก ที่ใต้จรดที่ดินเอกชน ทิศตะวันออกจรดอ่าวไทย ทิศตะวันตกจรดถนนหลวงสายปากพนัง-หัวไทร
สังกัดคณะสงฆ์ธรรมยุตที่ดินประมาณ 10 ไร่ 1 งาน วัดเกาะเพชรสร้างเมื่อพ.ศ 2472 ผู้ดำเนินการก่อสร้างวัดคือพ่อท่านขำ อุตตโมและนายคง นายทอง ได้ชักชวนราษฎรบ้านเกาะเพชร ร่วมกันบริจาคสร้างเสนาสนะเพื่อใช้เป็นที่พักสงฆ์และบำเพ็ญกุศล เดินบริเวณวัดมีต้นไม้ชนิดหนึ่งเรียกว่าต้นเค็ต ราษฎรจึงเรียกชื่อวัดว่าวัดเกาะเค็ต ต่อมาพระครูพุทธสถาน เจ้าอาวาสวัดท่าเสริมได้เปลี่ยนชื่อวัดเป็นวัดเกาะเพชรได้รับพระราชทานวิสุงคามสีมาเมื่อปีพศ 2489
นางชวนพิศ สุขใจชนะ ผู้ประสานงานวัดเกาะเพชร ได้มีหนังสือแจ้งมายังสำนักงานมูลนิธิชัยพัฒนา ขออนุญาตนำแบบพระอุโบสถวัดพระราม ๙ กาญจนาภิเษก กรุงเทพมหานคร นำไปใช้เป็นต้นแบบในการก่อสร้างอุโบสถที่วัดเกาะเพชร ตำบลเกาะเพชร อำเภอหัวไทร จังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช เพื่อใช้ประโยชน์ทางด้านการประกอบศาสนพิธีของวัด และทดแทนอุโบสถหลังเก่าที่มีสภาพชำรุดทรุดโทรม
วัดเกาะเพชร เป็นศูนย์รวมจิตใจของชาวบ้านตำบลเกาะเพชร อีกทั้งยังเป็นสถานที่จัดกิจกรรมของชุมชน ทั้งนี้ ปัจจุบัน อุโบสถหลังเก่ามีความชำรุดทรุดโทรม ผนังแตกร้าว หลังคากระเบื้องแตก และน้ำรั่วซึม
จึงประสงค์จะดำเนินการก่อสร้างอุโบสถหลังใหม่ ทั้งนี้ ชาวบ้านในชุมชนมีความพร้อมที่จะช่วยกันร่วมทำบุญในการก่อสร้างอุโบสถหลังใหม่ในครั้งนี้
ด้วยวัดเกาะเพชรเป็นวัดโบราณตั้งอยู่ริมชายหาดชายทะเล ตำบลเกาะเพชรอำเภอหัวไทรเนื้อที่ 12 ไร่ นับเวลา 20 กว่าปีขึ้นได้จากชายหาดทำให้เกิดการพังของสรรหามาถึง 50 เมตรเป็นอย่างน้อยปัจจุบันวัดเกาะเพชรมีพื้นที่เหลือเพียง 8 ไร่เศษ

The temple area of Koh Phet Temple has a total area of approximately 8 rai 80 square wa (according to the certificate of use document number 1682, volume 17b., page 32) with Phrakhru Uthai Thammaprapas. He is the current abbot in 2021, who has been appointed as the abbot of the temple. The temple area is north to the land of the Child Development Center. At the south it reaches private land. East to the Gulf of Thailand West to the Pak Phanang-Hua Sai highway.
Under the Thammayut Sangha, the land area is approximately 10 rai 1 ngan. Wat Koh Phet was built in 1929. The construction operator of the temple was Father Than Kham. Koh Phet Temple is an ancient temple located on the seaside beach. Koh Phet Subdistrict, Hua Sai District, area 12 rai. Over 20 years, it has been able to rise from the beach, resulting in the destruction of at least 50 meters. Currently, Koh Phet Temple has only 8 rai of land remaining.
